Wasteland Wars

The Warhammer / 40k Independent Grand Tournament of West Texas

Painting Competition

Warhammer Divisions

There are two main divisions – Warhammer Fantasy and 40K. Each division has two categories, which basically comes down to small or large.

The two categories for Warhammer Fantasy are:

  • Individual models on a cav base or smaller (20, 25mm)
  • Large – 40mm base or larger

Both categories are for single models – not dioramas or units. And yes, a dragon with a rider counts as a single model.

The two categories for 40K are very similar:

  • Individual models on a 40mm base or smaller
  • Monstrous creature/vehicle

Again, single models, please.

These four categories of the competition are restricted to Games Workshop/Citadel/Forgeworld models.

Warmachine / Hordes Division

The two categories for Warmachine / Hordes are:

  • Individual models on a 40mm base or smaller
  • Large Warjacks or Warbeasts

Both categories are for single models – not dioramas or units.

Open Division

NEW for WW8 – the “Open” division.

The Open division is a broad one that allows participants to enter miniatures from manufacturers other than Games Workshop, and in forms other than the single model. The three categories are:

  • Individual models on a 40mm base or smaller
  • Smaller monsters, creatures, vehicles
  • Units, Dioramas

Miniatures entered in this division should either be non-GW models, or GW models that do not fit in the main Warhammer / 40K divisions.

The Open division is also the only one Wasteland Wars staff members can enter!

Other Information

There is no additional fee to participate in the painting competition. Everyone who enters the competition should understand that their models/miniatures will be photographed for possible use on the tournament website. This portion of the competition is open to WW8 players only. You may enter any or all of the divisions/categories, regardless of which game you are registered to play. We do ask only one entry per each one, however. PLEASE don’t enter models from the army you brought to play because the miniatures need to be on display throughout the entire tournament, for everyone to judge and admire.

This year judging will be done by WW8 participants voting for their favorite entry in each of the categories, “player’s choice”. Ties will be broken by the painting judges.
